Hello, neighbor
Vinyl stair systems with matching risers and nosings - waterproof, scratch-proof, and built to outlast the busiest Metro Detroit households.
Vinyl is the only stair-friendly material that's fully waterproof, scratch-resistant, and quiet underfoot at the same time. For households with kids, pets, or basement stairs that see snowmelt and groceries every day, it outlasts both hardwood and carpet without showing it.
Renova Floors installs [luxury vinyl plank](/luxury-vinyl-plank) (LVP) stairs throughout Metro Detroit using the same plank you choose for the adjoining floor, so the staircase blends seamlessly into the room above and below. Prefer hardwood stairs instead? See [hardwood stairs](/hardwood-stairs).

Most LVP manufacturers don't ship matching stair nosings, which is why so many DIY vinyl stair jobs look like an afterthought. We solve that two ways: factory-color nosings when available, and custom-milled nosings cut from the same plank when they aren't. Either way, the front edge of every stair matches the tread exactly - no contrast strip, no aluminum trim, no gap.

View financing detailsVinyl stair installs fail in two ways: poor adhesion (planks lift at the nosing) or unprepared substrate (every step squeaks). We use polyurethane construction adhesive plus mechanical fasteners hidden behind the nosing, and we level every tread with skim coat before the plank goes down. The result is a staircase that feels as solid as hardwood with none of the maintenance.

Pricing per stair, materials and labor included. Includes tread, riser wrap, and custom-matched nosing.
| Option | Typical price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Standard LVP stair (20 mil wear layer) | $95 - $135 per stair | Most popular |
| Heavy-duty LVP (30 mil, commercial-grade) | $120 - $165 per stair | Best for rentals or pets |
| Add-on: custom-milled matching nosings | +$25 - $40 per stair | When factory nosing unavailable |
Final price depends on stair count, removal of existing surface, and whether risers are wrapped in vinyl or painted. [Book a free estimate](/free-estimate) for a firm number.
Modern LVP is embossed with a low-slip micro-texture rated for stair use. It's more slip-resistant than polyurethaned hardwood and similar to LVT in a commercial setting.
We remove the carpet, padding, staples, and tack strip first, then evaluate the treads. Solid wood treads get a quick level and the LVP goes on top. Particleboard or damaged treads get replaced.
Not when properly installed. We re-secure every tread and add construction adhesive before laying the plank, which actually makes the staircase quieter than it was before.
With a matching nosing - either a factory piece from the LVP manufacturer or one we mill in-house from the same plank. We never use a generic aluminum strip.
